Artist Statement

My sculpture and drawings explore aspects of the spiritual. The sculptures are composite forms made from found natural materials, such as tree limbs, due to their inherent meaning and closeness to the earth. I also create “traced” shadow drawings that address the intangible nature of the spirit. The drawings are derived from the shadows of my sculptures. Utilizing sanding and erasure techniques, I investigate the shadows making apparent the undulating texture of light. The drawings are delicate and subtle. The work provides each viewer with an opportunity to “look” closely and observe the obscure details of shadows. I believe that there is beauty in the minute details of life.
